A Little Science is a Dangerous Thing

Bruce,
I caught the Larry King show and have seen The Secret, of the so-called Law of Attraction, but I've gotta say there is some new "edge" shadow here for me, and others I know though I'm a fan of Bill Harris and Fred Wolf. That movie is a propaganda machine with tons of emotional appeal, and the hitch in the giddy up is all those people made that law of attraction true by shamelessly digging in the pockets of others (especially the surgically-enhanced JZ Knight) while telling them what they WANT to hear, which is self-serving. So, it's true and not true. And giving examples like a woman who cured her cancer in 3 mo. without chemo or radiation can be deadly to some. Further, it instills reactionary ‘new age guilt’ for those who can't 'create their own reality.' Being positive is fine; being a Pollyanna is silly, and they have grossly oversimplied that, IMHO.

My biophysics emergentmind.org journal is running some new protocols on this currently with Roger Nelson of PEARS, and we are all in agreement, though this has been new age and psi litany for some time. Attached is my op-ed article for the coming issue. Also posted at ionaparamedia.50megs.com/whats...2.html

I agree it's a good intro for the general public, but then again The Secret presents a totally narcissistic approach to it, and THAT is a big problem - one of the biggest this country has. Mostly it's designed to part people from their money, not help humanity. The tone was somewhere between psi-trance and manic consumerism.

Caveat emptor, while pulling rabbits from a hat.

peace in,
Iona

this is kind of freaky because a lot of people seem to love the secret and it's positive thinking message but one of the first issues for me is when positive thinkers advocate creativity yet present less than mediocre artwork but perhaps delusion is the trick of attraction... ?

the pseudo leonardo illustrations were worse than awful and the discourses seemed mediocre at best...

but then again I'd kind of appreciate being able to manifest some comfortable mediocrity instead of desperate alienation...

it's a complex web of illusion out there for sure... hahaha

    art for art's sake
    money for god's sake... waaaaaaaah

Overall, I feel the film has a heavy materialistic emphasis. The main focus tends to be in using the secret for things like cars and houses. In that way, while it keeps alive the timeless wisdom of folks like W. Clement Stone (Think and Grow Rich) and James Allen (As Man Thinketh), it lacked any new and original information, or perhaps better yet, it failed to go beyond the Western mindset because it conveniently forgot to take into consideration viewpoints from the East (everyone from Zen to Osho) which are at odds with its premise (or at the very least represent the step beyond); viewpoints clearly illuminating flaws in the maxims "Ask and you shall receive," and even, "I think, therefore I am." I'm talking about those "desireless desires" that more "truly" yeild the real fruit and authentic nectar of spiritually derived happiness. In this way, The Secret failed to communicate the subtle paradox in the magic of attraction and in the end made it come across as more of an elaborate infomercial for consumerism than anything. This, in essence, left me with a compelling desire to produce my own follow-up to The Secret. One called "The Reason: The Reason The Secret Won't Work."

The reason The Secret won't work (as it's presented) is that it's not really holistic. Seeing material dreams come true in the outer world should be considered a by-product of the more beneficial process of a balanced, integral development and in following our heart. Was this mentioned in the film at all? It is my contention that focusing on the interconnectedness of Self uncodes the cryptic realm of attraction with "skillful means" to reveal and strengthen the wyrd dynamics of realization or actualization that are much deeper than mere positive thinking, Visioning boards (see Dr. Lucia Cappacione ), and chanting "namu-myoho-renge-kyo (see jbe.gold.ac.uk/4/bocking1.html )."

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying these things (or The Secret) are/is bad. They're just limited. There's no big secret about them.

What I AM saying is, empowered living certainly can be empowered by the power of attraction and its results, but it's so much more than that. Fulfillment and happiness utimately come from total health and well-being. The Secret missed the opportunity to promote the higher value of wealth in such higher levels of health (i.e., a deeper, richer relationship with self to the greater whole); values which always recommend remaining detached to outer contingencies and circumstances, good or bad. Be first and then do to have. Become aligned with your whole Self and you will bring out your best self which is true to your own unique self. Do this and the fruits which are your own will come to you if and when they do.

Cross-posted here, in the 100th tribe, and in the 2012 tribe:

      The God Code ( Steven B ):

      100 quotes from The Secret:

The 100th principles ( John Kellden):

The secret of the Law of Attraction ( Iona Miller ):

      Some pointers:
Stay connected with Steven B, and Paul Townsend, so as to be aligned with Cabala/Kabbala/Qabalah.
Lon Milo Duquette is also a good resource.

Use the quotes from The Secret, so as to enable/allow yourself to fully express yourself and your embodied
spirit on a practical, material level.

Apply the 100th principles, so as to transform your fear-based beliefs, into beliefs aligned with everyday miracles.
The 100th principles are basically a tweak of the ACIM principles, adapted so as to accomodate collective sentience,
      and embodied spirit.

Stay in close touch with Iona Miller, so as to avoid the narcissistic entrapments of the supernova phase of the current
3D civilization, while simultaneously express your own authentic vibrancy and joie de vivre.

Would welcome any and all input, reflections, opinions from you all.

What is of use to you? What are you here for? What do you want? What do you envision?
What steps are you taking to realize your vision? What is your very first thought when you wake up?

IMO, most importantly, through the bewildering array of codes, information, experiences and choices available right now,
honour your own embodied spirit - the small still voice within that will never let you down. Ever.

      love always,
      John

And do stuff - dont just sit there -
      upsy daisies! :-)
